AFTERCARE

GENERAL TIPS

If you have been given/are using a second skin product such as recovery aftercare or saniderm, you can leave the initial bandage on for the first three to five days. Please remove the second skin product in the shower or under running water to help ease the water-soluble adhesive to release from your skin and your fresh tattoo. Once removed, give your tattoo a thorough cleaning using a scent-free, dye-free soap and your finger tips. Remember to be GENTLE.

WHAT TO EXPECT

You can expect some redness, tenderness, itching, peeling, light scabbing, and temporary swelling of the area of your fresh tattoo. Please do not pick at peeling skin as this can cause scarring and negatively affect how the tattoo heals.

SOAP AND LOTION ROUTINE

If you’re not using a second skin product or have removed your second skin bandage, you can now start your soap and lotion routine. Wash your fresh tattoo at least twice a day with a scent-free, dye-free soap, such as Dial, and apply a thin but adequate layer of a scent-free, dye-free lotion such as Lubriderm.

WHAT TO AVOID

Please avoid submerging your new tattoo in water for at least the first two weeks. This includes, but is not limited to, pools, the ocean, baths, hot tubs, etc. Showering is OKAY and ENCOURAGED. Please avoid exposing a fresh tattoo to pet hair or dander and pet saliva. Please avoid picking at peeling skin or fresh skin on a new tattoo. Please avoid over-exposure to the sun on a fresh tattoo.
